Universal has bought movie rights on Dan and Sam |
Two new big screen adaptations today to announce, spylings, while the Orthodox part of the world celebrates Easter. First up, Deadline reports that Picador's graphic novel
DAN AND SAM has been picked up by
Universal who will make a film out of
Mark Watson and
Oliver Harud’s 2015 hit graphic novel! Japanese director
Hikari will helm the story about a prosperous London couple: when Sam dies in Dan’s arms after an accident, Dan is granted a reprieve – Sam can return to him for one night of the year, every year, until he falls in love again. And though Dan knows that no one could ever take Sam’s place in his heart, he faces an impossible choice.
Molly Smith Metzler is penning the adaptation.

THE SHADOW KING will be turned into a film by
Kasi Lemmons (Harriet) over at
Atlas Entertainment. The historical fiction novel revolves around the Ethiopian women soldiers, left out of the historical record, who went to battle against Mussolini’s invading army in 1935 Ethiopia. The story follows, Aster, the wife of a commander in Haile Selassie’s overwhelmed army, and her household servant Hirut, who long to do more than care for the wounded and bury the dead. Together they offer a plan to maintain morale among Ethiopians, eventually becoming warriors and inspiring other women to take up arms against the Italians.
