ATMOSPHERIC FIRST POSTERS

FOR 'THE GHOULS' ADVENTURE

It is such a poor weekend, people, that the only thing I have for you are atmospheric first posters for Chinese action blockbuster THE GHOULS which is hitting Asian cinemas this December! Directed by visual genius Wuershan who helmed PAINTED SKIN, the $37 million movie stars Chinese star Shu Qui, alongside Chen Kun, Huang Bo, Yao Chen. A huge part of the film, which will have international distribution too, was shot in New York.

Based on the popular online novel 'Ghost Blows Out the Light' by Chinese author Zhang Muye, THE GHOULS is set at the beginning

of the 1990s, when famous tomb explorer Hu Bayi (Chen Kun) decided to retire and move to the United States with his fiancée Shirley (Shu Qui). But before his wedding, Bayi discovers his first love Ding Shitian, who supposedly had died in the "One Hundred Cave" 20 years ago, is

actually still alive. Together with Shirley and his old exploration partner, Bayi unravels a terrible millennium-old secret! Check out the teaser:

NATHANIEL PARKER JOINS

'OF KINGS & PROPHETS' SERIES

As you know it was supposed to start airing this Autumn on Sunday nights at ABC, but new historical seriesOF KINGS AND PROPHETS has been pushed

to Mid Season in order for the producers to fix all the weak spots and improve the story. That also means some recasting, so the new face to be added to the cast is Nathaniel Parker as the cagey, shrewd and lethal King Achish, the King of Philistia who has been warring with King Saul (Ray Winstone) for years. The new series is an epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of a battle-weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny.

Meanwhile, first poster and cast photo have been released for THE WALKING DEAD companion series

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD which should hit the small screens in more than 150 countries around the world later this summer, in August to be more precise!

Kim Dickens leads the cast of the series, as a school guidance counsellor Madison living in Los Angeles at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. She is sceptical when she hears of the spreading zombie virus, but soon realises that she and her family are in grave danger. Cliff Curtis plays her fiancé Travis, Frank Dillane plays her dropout son Nick, and Alycia Debnam Carey is her responsible daughter Alicia. The series, which, apparently, won't include as much zombies as its older sister series, will also have Rubén Blades, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Sandrine Holt in the cast.

'ATTACK ON TITAN'

GETS US CINEMA DISTRIBUTION

Not many movie news coming from Hollywood in the preholiday week, so we're turning over to Asia as usual! An Asian movie I've introduced you to earlier this year is finally getting its US distribution too! Japanese science fiction blockbuster ATTACK ON TITAN which will hit Asian cinemas this August and September (it has two parts, second one being titled END OF THE WORLD) will have its North American life too by FUNanimation and the cast will be present at San Diego's Comic Con next month and

the movie will actually have its red carpet world premiere in Los Angeles July 4th. You can also check out the stunning and detailed character

posters showing the main heroes of the epic movie based on the ultra popular Japanese anime by the same name.

'MINORITY REPORT' SF SERIES

NICK ZANO JOINS STARK SANDS

One of the movies which is getting its television version this Autumn season is MINORITY REPORT which will be turned into

series from September 2nd at Fox and it just managed to hire Nick Zano as the second lead after he became free since his sitcom ONE BIG HAPPY got cancelled at NBC. He will play Arthur, the brother of Dash (Stark Sands) who is using his special abilities to solve crimes.

The series is set in 2065 Washington 10 years after the demise of Precrime where a law enforcement agency had used three precogs, brothers Dash and Arthur and their foster sister Agatha, to identify and eliminate criminals before crimes were committed. Now, crime solving strategies are different. Precog Dash (Stark Sands) has returned in secret to help a brash, but shrewd police detective, Lara Vega (Meagan Good), attempt to stop the murders that he predicts. As they navigate this future America, they will search for Dash’s missing brother, Arthur (Nick Zano). Arthur has a hard shell, borne of years of difficult experience in the outside world that Dash avoided. He is confident and self assured, even Machiavellian, and, while Dash selflessly and heroically tries to stop the future murders he sees in his precognitive visions, his estranged twin uses his gift to consolidate personal wealth and power in the building of an empire.

Now here's something sweet for you. An animated movie which is airing for free from today at Google Play called ALL CREATURES BIG AND SMALL also known as TWO BY TWO. In the film a clumsy new species of Nestrians, led by patriarch Dave and son Finny, find themselves left off the list of animals allowed to board Noah's Ark. With rough waters ahead, the father-son duo scramble in disguise to sneak onto the boat. Caught up in all the excitement, Finny accidentally steps off the boat and gets left behind leaving him and a few new friends to embark on an

AMC has released the first poster for their new fantasy adventure series INTO THE BADLANDS which should start airing this

November! The six episode series is set in a land controlled by feudal barons telling the story of a ruthless, well-trained warrior named Sunny (Daniel Wu) and a young boy, M.K. (Aramis Knight), who embark on a journey across a dangerous land to find enlightenment.

Marton Csokas will play Quinn, the most powerful baron in the Badlands, who spent his youth patrolling the Badlands and killing. Emily Beecham plays The Widow, a regal beauty and a cunning strategist with extravagant, high fashion taste while Sarah Bolger plays Jade, a porcelain beauty who masks her

ambition with fragile innocence. Oliver Stark plays the warrior’s son Ryer who has not lived up to his father’s expectations.

Scotland. As I reported before a number of stars has joined the new season with Stanley Weber playing Comte St Germain the main rival of Jamie's cousin who is the leading wine seller in France. VICIOUS star Frances de la Tour will play Mother Hildegarde, woman who comes

from an aristocratic and well-connected family. When Claire begins volunteering at L'Hopital des Anges, she encounters and soon earns the respect of Mother Hildegarde. Andrew Gower will be Prince Charles Stuart who wants the throne, while Margaux Chatelier will play an old flame of Jamie's.

Just two new Asian movie trailers for you this monotonous beginning of the week, starting with probably one of the craziest trailers

you will ever see because in it a man is giving birth to some kind of ... well, monster I guess. MONSTER HUNT is a $40 million action adventure fantasy movie opening next week in China and starring Eric Tsang, Tang Wei and Wallace Chung.

Directed by Raman Hui who worked at Dreamworks on SHREK movies, MONSTER HUNT fantasy comedy is set in a fantasy world far, far away, where monsters ruled the land before humans came and started the war. In its final days, they outwitted the monsters and succeeded in

driving them into the dark mountains. Ever since, monsters have been forbidden to step into the land again. For all these years, the two races have lived in their separate worlds, until the birth of Hu Ba, the young kind hearted king of the monsters who will try to make peace between the world of humans and the world of the monster!

'THE ASSASSIN' TRAILER

A month or two ago I showed you first photos and a clip from new sprawling movie THE ASSASSIN and now we have the first trailer.

It is directed by Hou Hsiao Hsien who was awarded at Cannes Film Festival this year. The film is set during the mighty Tang Dynasty period in Chinese history. Qi Shu is Nie Yinniang who returns to family after several years in exile. The mission of her order is to eliminate the tyranny of the Governors who avoid the authority of the Emperor. Now she will have to choose between sacrificing the man she loves, or break definitively with the "order of the Assassins".

'PRINCE CHARMING' GETTING

HIS OWN MOVIE AT DISNEY!

Are you in the mood for more fairy tales at the big screen? After huge success that they've scored this year with CINDERELLA Disney is planning to venture again into the same direction but with a certain twist. According to today's news they are planning a separate movie on PRINCE CHARMING which would bring a revisionist view on the charming nobleman. As you know Richard Madden portrayed PRINCE CHARMING brilliantly in this year's CINDERELLA and by Josh Dallas in OUAT and Chris Pine in INTO THE WOODS but it isn't known if the prince will be that one or from SNOW WHITE. Disney has a whole sea of fairy tale movies in production from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST with Luke Evans, Ian McKellen, Dan Stevens and Emma Thompson to THE JUNGLE BOOK, DUMBO, MULAN and new ALICE IN WONDERLAND sequel.

'EMPIRE' SECOND SEASON

KELLY ROWLAND AND MARISA TOMEI JOIN THE CAST OF OSCAR NOMINEES

Yet another star to join the second season of this year biggest TV hit EMPIRE is r'n'b star Kelly Rowland and she isn't the only r'n'b star to join since Alicia Keys and Neyo will also join Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard and Jussie Smollett in the cast. In the super popular series which follows a hip hop music mogul and his complex family situation Kelly will play Lucious Lyon's (Terrence Howard) mother in flashback scenes. In the whole slate of Oscar winners and nominees in the cast, Marisa Tomei is the new addition too and will play a billionaire venture capitalist whose keen business sense is only rivalled by her eye for the ladies! I reported earlier that Adam Rodriguez will play Cookie Lyon's new love interest while Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz and Oprah Winfrey will also guest star.

'TUTANKHAMUN' EPIC SERIES

ON THE DISCOVERY OF HIS TOMB

While we are anxiously awaiting to see the premiere of TUT three part mini series at Spike on July 19th, over across the ocean, British ITV has announced the work on four part mini series TUTANKHAMUN, but unlike TUT, which deals with the Pharaoh himself, this one will bring the true story of how Howard Carter came to discover the tomb of Ancient Egypt's boy-king. The story will begin in 1905 as he leads an expedition to find lost treasures in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. However, he finds himself living rough when his license to dig is revoked, and he is forced to sell his previous finds in order to survive. An unlikely friendship with a British aristocrat named Lord Carnavon brings Carter back to archaeology, and helps him make one of the most significant discoveries of the modern age. Peter Webber (GIRL WITH A PEARL EARING) is directing!

Giving Films have sent us the first trailer and poster for new movie drama 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN from which all of the profits will be given to charities after it premieres in cinemas September

The second trailer for today is for another touching drama, Chris Pine's sea disaster movie THE FINEST HOUR which Disney

will release next January. In February of 1952, one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast struck New England, damaging an oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod and literally ripping it in half. On a small lifeboat faced with frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves, four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the rapidly-sinking vessel. Eric Bana, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, Graham McTavish and Cassey Affleck are also in the star studded cast!

'THE KAISER'S LAST KISS'

Methinks we're having a hunkfest today, starting with blond God Jai Courtney who has just joined historical drama, the adaptation

of Alan Judd's novel THE KAISER'S LAST KISS set in the early years of World War II, in the aftermath of the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands in 1940. Living there is former monarch Kaiser Wilhelm (Christopher Plummer), in exile since 1917. In an effort to thwart the Nazis, the Dutch resistance work covertly with Winston Churchill to insert an agent into the Kaiser’s household. A lethally dangerous love affair ignites between a German officer (Jai Courtney) and a young Jewish Dutch woman (Lily James) with devastating consequences as the Nazis race to identify and eliminate the agent behind the potentially disastrous defection of their former Emperor to England.

Hunkfest in TV domain continues with the news of Christopher Russell and Dylan Playfair being cast as male leads

in ABC Family's new multicamera sitcom GORGEOUS MORONS. Previous weekend I announced that Lilah Richcreek will be the female lead. They will play two stunningly handsome but ridiculously simple brothers who find their lives rocked by their brainy new roommate, Jane whose looks are, by their standards, in desperate need of help! Christopher Russell will be Madison, a pretentious but vapid model capable of getting whatever he wants by simply flashing his incredible smile. After Jane moves in with Madison and his brother AJ, he admits to his insecurities and fear of letting people down. Behind his pride and vanity, Madison is a

caring, loving man who wants nothing more than to provide for his brother. Dylan Playfair will be AJ, a personal trainer, a former ugly duckling who is not always comfortable with his hunkiness. Dieting and personal grooming are more of a struggle for AJ than for Madison. When his landlord threatens to evict them, AJ invites Jane to live in their third room, unaware of her distaste for his brother. More charming than his smile or clueless nature is his constant optimism and ability to see everyone as a friend.

'REIGN' SEASON 3

SPENCER MACPHERSON JOINS EPIC SHOW AS PRINCE CHARLES

In the news from the epic TV front today, the latest report is that 18 year old Spencer MacPherson has joined the 3rd season of CW's historical drama REIGN.

He will play French prince Charles, a boy on the edge of puberty who has begun to realize that he may be the next King of France sooner than he’d imagined. This harsh realization causes him to swing back and forth between fulfilling the needs of a teenage boy and a drive to be the best ruler he can be. As you know the new season will probably see Queen Mary (Adelaide Kane) moving to Scotland after her husband King Francis (Toby Regbo) dies, where she will fight with Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten). The third run starts October 9th but with reduced number of episodes than usual probably due to the fact that the 2nd season's implausible character development has left the show without the core of its audience.

'LAST WITCH HUNTER' POSTERS

VIN DIESEL TAKES THE THRONE

Over at Comic Con two new posters have been revealed for fantasy adventure LAST WITCH HUNTER starring Vin Diesel. The

movie is out this October also starring Michael Caine and Elijah Wood. A sequel is already being prepared.

It seems that gorgeous movie star Jennifer Lawrence is a bit sick of epic adventures so she is turning over to romantic movies. While she is currently shooting sf romance THE PASSENGERS (in which she is the only awaken traveller on a space ship together with Chris Pratt) she will take on the lead role in the big screen adaptation of Graeme Simsion's THE ROSIE EFFECT. The movie titled THE ROSIE PROJECT will revolve around a socially anxious, awkward professor who formulates a survey to find the perfect partner. His stringently tested plans are thrown off track when he meets Rosie Jarman (Jennifer Lawrence), whose personality goes against every requisite his survey demands.

'SHANNARA' EPIC SERIES

MIND BLOWING FIRST TRAILER!

The first very long and unexpectedly stunning trailer for MTV's epic TV series THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES has been revealed and it seems our worries that MTV might do it wrong weren't justified, at least

judging from the first scenes and mind blowing sets and visuals! Arriving to the small screens next January, the television adaptation of

Terry Brooks popular epic fantasy novels will follow Elven princes and princesses trying to save the post apocalyptic world fighting with Humans against Demons. The ten episode first season has been shot

over at New Zealand so the look is very reminiscent of LORD OF THE RINGS movies. Manu Bennett, Poppy Drayton, John Rhys Davies, Ivana Baquero, Daniel MacPherson lead the cast!

Now, you know we don't do horrors, but this is a new movie from our dear friend Shaun Smith who was special make up effects supervisor on EXETER (in UK THE ASYLUM) a new horror thriller out this August in cinemas! With the cast lead by Stephen Lang and directed by Marcus Nispel (PATHFINDER, CONAN THE BARBARIAN) the movie revolves

around a group of young people who, after a party in an abandoned asylum, accidentally release an evil spirit that starts to possess them one by one.

Beside reading the interview we did with Shaun Smith earlier, check out what Marcus Nispel had to say on his cooperation with the ultra talented special make up effects supervisor: Shaun impressed me with the work that he did on 300 and we've worked together ever since CONAN. He does the most amazingly realistic masks and prosthetics and he designs creatures that would blow you away, but what makes me pilgrimage to him again and again is his conceptual

understanding and methodology when it comes to something that we are both firm believers in: camera effects. Too many movies look like blown up video games these days. On the set actors, stunt men, puppeteers, people pulling wires, applying make up, prosthetics, smoke and mirrors all need to work in concert and when we are staging a “Big Kill” Shaun is King. He comes up with many production savvy ideas that make a impossible budget possible. It is Shaun’s infinite ingenuity and flexibility that brings it all together. I consult with him before I embark on a project and our relation is a relation of great trust and faith in each other.

'SAINTS & STRANGERS' SERIES

The cast has been revealed for National Geographic's new historical mini series SAINTS & STRANGERS about the Mayflower's crossing of the Atlantic. Vincent Kartheiser, Ron Livingston, Barry Sloane, Michael Jibson, Ray Stevenson, Natascha McElhone, Tatanka Means and Kalani Queypo are just some of the stars of Nat Geo's first scripted miniseries which tells the story behind the founding of America, chronicling the trials and tribulations of the 101 men, women and children who boarded the Mayflower for a one-way trip to the New World.

STAR STUDDED CAST
One group seeking religious freedom, called the saints, is led by William Bradford (Kartheiser) and his wife Dorothy (Anna Camp), with Ron Livingston as Pilgrims leader John Carver and Barry Sloane as the diplomat Edward Winslow. A second faction, led by traveller Stephen Hopkins (Ray Stevenson), are a group of strangers seeking fortune rather than religious liberty. Hopkins's pregnant wife (Natascha McElhone) and the agitator John Billington (Brían F. O'Byrne) are

among the other strangers. Means and Queypo are the Native Americans they meet in America. HBO is also preparing their own series on first American settlers - LEWIS AND CLARKE with Matthias Schoenaerts and Cassey Affleck.

AGATHA CHRISTIE BBC SERIES

Now, here's a treat for all of you Agatha Christie fans: Aidan Turner, who is currently shining bright in POLDARK, will star in BBC's three part mysteryAND THEN THERE WERE NONE! The filming has already begun and the cast is incredibly star studded! Coming from POLDARK producers the drama is set in 1939 following a group of people who come to Soldier Island, an isolated rock near the Devon coast. Cut off from the mainland, with their generous hosts mysteriously absent, they are each accused of a terrible crime. When one of the party dies suddenly they realise they may be harbouring a murderer among their number.   One by one they are picked off by a killer who seems to be taunting the victims with an ominous nursery rhyme.

In TV news today, ABC's midseason new historical series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS has added Jeanine Mason to the cast which is currently undergoing changes. The series is an epic Biblical saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of a battle weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny. Jeanine Mason will play Merav, the eldest daughter of King Saul (Ray Winstone) and Queen Ahinoam (Simone Kessell), and sister of Michal (Maisie Richardson Sellers). Nathaniel Parker has recently joined the cast as Achish, the King of Philistia! A new director Michael Offer has been brought to reshoot the entire pilot episode!

NEW MOVIE ADAPTATION

ERIC JAGER'S 'THE LAST DUEL'

Speaking of epic news, 'Deadline' reports that Shaun Grant will adapt Eric Jager's historical novel THE LAST DUEL into a movie. The "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" helmer Francis Lawrence is attached to direct the true story of a duel in 1386 between knights Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris. It was the final duel sanctioned by the French government, ruled at the time by King Charles VI.

The news of the day is that Disney is preparing ALADDIN prequel movie titled GENIES in order to set the ground for the live action ALADDIN movie which would happen after GENIES. While ALADDIN was an adaptation of ancient Arabic folk tale about a lowly street kid who finds a magical lamp with a wish granting genie the prequel GENIES would be set in the world of those magical creatures, describing how Aladdin's genie ended up in the magical lamp. As I've reported before BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and MULAN are also getting live action versions!

Speaking of adaptations, comic book series HERALD will be turned into a television series! Coming from writer John Reilly, and artists Tom Rogers and Dexter Weeks, the comic book to be turned into small screen show brings an alternate universe story in which a time travelling legendary Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla teams up with famous writer H.P. Lovecraft and other historical characters to save the world from various cosmic horrors.

'ARMAGEDON 2419 AD"

Two sf book movie adaptations for you today, starting with news coming from 'Deadline' that film will be made out of classic sf story ARMAGEDON 2419 AD by Philip Francis Nowlan, an adventure about Buck Rogers, who, while investigating a mysterious gas leak and then getting trapped, is held in suspended animation, where he survives for just short of 500 years. He awakens on an Earth that is caught in a futuristic civil war, with the remnants of the United States battling both futuristic Soviets and Mongolians. The film will be set in a more advanced future than the one in the 1920's novel.

SMYTHE'S 'WAY DOWN DARK'

Meanwhile, James Smythe's brand new novel WAY DOWN DARK (if you ask me, the ugliest cover I've ever seen and I've seen them as ugly as they come) will also be turned into a movie. It is the first book in a planned trilogy about people stuck on a spaceship called Australia who are looking for an inhabitable planet. The large ship is a maze of gangs, violence and a struggle to survive.The YA story is told from the viewpoint of a 17 year old girl named Chan who tries to find a way to escape this dark world and save people.
