MERYL STREEP TO PLAY

SUSAN BOYLE IN A BIOPIC?!?

Well, here's a delightful piece of news this Tuesday: British singing star Susan Boyle (who became an overnight sensation when she appeared at a British singing talent show looking like a plump housewife and then vowed the crowds with some opera singing) will have her own biopic made by Fox Searchlight who bought the rights on her story, but she has now revealed that no other than Meryl Streep has been approached by the producers with the offer to take the lead role. This isn't actually all that surprising since we've seen Meryl doing unbelievable physical transformations for her roles. Four years ago there was also a rather charming gossip about Robin Williams being offered the very same role too. Just picture it, I think he would be amazing in it too!

GRANT GUSTIN'S THE FLASH

GETS A STANDALONE PILOT!

Meanwhile, in television news, Deadline reports that instead of presenting The Flash in episodes of THE ARROW show and using the last season episode of that show as a backdoor pilot episode for THE FLASH, the red costumed hero will now get his own separate pilot. He will appear in episodes 8 and 9 of THE ARROW but will then get his separate show pilot in which he will appear for the first time in his red costume. This happened after the producers have seen those two episodes with The Flash which were very well received. Grant Gustin, who plays THE FLASH in THE ARROW will appear in those two episodes only as Barry Allen, the man who later on becomes the super fast hero THE FLASH. Now the standalone pilot will delve deeper into his own story. There were rumours that Grant Gustin might play The Flash in future JUSTICE LEAGUE movie too!

CLIVE OWEN'S 'THE KNICK'

1900TH SET HISTORICAL SERIES

Since it's been an extremely poor week in movie news business, today we spotlight a few of the upcoming period set television series! Starting with Clive Owen's mini series THEKNICK which will air over at Cinemax some time next year! Steven Soderbergh directed and produced drama is set in downtown New York in 1900 focusing on Knickerbocker Hospital and the ground breaking surgeons, nurses and staff who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. Andre Holland, Juliet Rylance, Eve Hewson and Michael Angarano will all play surgeons and nurses. You can see some of the first pictures of Clive Owen and Juliet Rylance in costumes from the series. Rylance will play a beauty who does social work the hospital helping it survive the tough times, whileAndre Holland will appear in the series as a talented African American Harward trained surgeon battling race barriers in turn-of-the-century America. Eve Hewson will play Lucy, a young, naive nurse from the South who, like tens-of-thousands of others, has come to New York for adventure and finds more of it than she ever thought she would. Michael Angarano will play Dr. Bertram, an eager surgeon-in-training who gives up the chance to practice uptown in a wealthy hospital, for the romance and excitement of learning from a ground breaking surgeon in the chaotic, downtown world of The Knick. The shooting of the series is currently underway over in New York's Lower East Side which has been given a last century look with straw covered streets, horses and carriages!

JAMIE BELL'S 'TURN'

18TH CENTURY TV SERIES

Another historical series will come to us over at AMC. Titled TURN the ten episode series will be set in the summer of 1778, telling the story of New York farmer, Abe Woodhull (JamieBell), who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America's fight for independence. Rupert Wyatt (RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) has been hired to direct the opening episode of the new show which is actually based on Alexander Rose’s book 'Washington Spies'. Written by Craig Silverstein (‘Nikita’) and executive produced by ‘Bones’ BarryJosephson, the series will also have DOWNTON ABBEY's Kevin McNally as the local magistrate and Abe’s well-respected father. Angus Macfadyen will play Robert Rogers, a feared and admired war hero who fought alongside George Washington in the French and Indian war but has fallen from grace following a return to England where he has gambled away his fortune and lapsed into alcoholism.

VICTORIAN 'PENNY DREADFUL'

And you can also check out the first look of Josh Hartnett in another period set show PENNY DREADFUL which is coming to Showtime some time next year. Set in the Victorian London, the series, described as a study of sex and psychology, will weave together the origins of literary horror characters, such as Victor Frankenstein, Frankenstein's monster, Dorian Gray, and Count Dracula, as they grapple with their monstrous alienation in the 19th century British capital. Produced by Oscar winner Sam Mendes, the series will see Josh Hartnett as Ethan Chandler, a charming, brash, daring man of action who is unafraid of violence and more complicated than he likes to admit. Eva Green is Vanessa Ives, an enigmatic, composed heroine who proves herself a force to be reckoned with. Billie Piper is Brona Croft, an Irish immigrant seeking to escape her dark past. Timothy Dalton is Sir Malcolm, a hardened African explorer on a deeply personal quest. Reeve Carney is Dorian Gray, a confident, mesmerizing, yet somewhat isolated man! Harry Treadawayis Victor Frankenstein, Helen McCrory is Madame Kali, a spiritualist. Simon Russell Beale is Ferdinand Lyle, an eccentric Egyptologist.

'FLESH AND BONE' BALLET DRAMA

In television news today, Starz has started casting actors for their upcoming new show FLESH AND BONE, an exploration of the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world following a young ballet dancer, Claire, who has a distinctly troubled past, as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. Most of the cast members will be professional ballet dancers including famous American dancers Irina Dvorovenko, Sascha Radetsky,Emily Tyra. Thousands of dancers have so far auditioned nationwide for the role of Claire.

Meanwhile, FX is preparing BRADDOCK & JACKSON ten episode comedy show in which Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence play Chicago lawyers from vastly different backgrounds who develop a partnership after they unexpectedly meet in court on the worst day of their lives.

JULIAN SANDS JOINS PIRATES IN 'CROSSBONES' PIRATE SHOW

And famous drama actor Julian Sands has been cast in a reoccuring role in John Malkovich's NBC pirate show CROSSBONES! 'Deadline' reports that he will play William Jagger, an aristocrat turned privateer and governor of Jamaica who dispatches Tom Lowe (Richard Coyle) to accompany inventor mathematician Benedict Nightingale and his Marine Chronometer to England by way of a secret convoy.

'DEVIL'S KNOT' TRAILER

year. Based on the true crime book by Mara Leveritt,DEVIL'S KNOT tells the compelling story of three teenagers accused of the brutal 1993 murder of three 8-year old boys in Memphis - two of them sentenced to life imprisonment and one to death. The film explores the lives of deeply misunderstood outsiders, their families and communities, and their darkest fantasies. The conviction of the West Memphis Three riled the American justice system, shocked a tightly knit religious town and outraged the nation. Dane Dehaan and Kevin Durand also star.

MICHAEL CHIKLIS TO MAKE

PANTHEON GREEK GODS TV SERIES

Well, this sounds interesting: Michael Chiklis, the star of THE SHIED, NO ORDINARY FAMILY and VEGAS, is going to make PANTHEON comic book that he himself wrote into a television series. 'Deadline' writes that the 5-issue PANTHEON comic book series is a stylized story of ancient Greek gods returning to a ravaged, chaotic near-future Earth, where they battle for the fate of mankind. The television series is expected to feature Greek Gods resurfacing in present time. Chiklis is currently searching for a showrunner who would work on the project with him!

THE SPACE VAMPIRES

TO BE MADE INTO SF TV SHOW
Another futuristic story will also be seen in a television version of the 80's LIFEFORCE sf movie. To be told in a form of new television series this small screen adaptation of ColinWilson's 1976 novel THE SPACE VAMPIRES (to be also followed by a graphic novel and video games) has a plot which follows a group of astronauts who discover a derelict spaceship and return to Earth with three humanoid aliens that unleash a life-sucking plague upon humanity!

TURKEY'S CANDIDATE FOR OSCARS

And here's a trailer for Turkey's candidate for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Awards for this year. Titled THE BUTTERFLY'S DREAM, this visually striking and deeply touching movie, starring Turkey's biggest and hottest hunk Kivanch Tatlitug, centres on two young poets in the 1940s of Turkey who make a bet on a pretty girl. Whoever’s poem the girl likes will win, and the other will step aside. The poets however have to deal with other problems like disease, poverty, compulsory work in the mines and the Second World War in the meantime. As the story unravels, the poets travel through cities and events in search of happiness. Is it the optimist who’s the bravest or the pessimist? This story will tell. With 10,000 extras and 3,000 costumes used in the film, THE BUTTEFLY'S DREAM has been seen by more than 10 million people in Europe so far.

DEZZY SPIES FROM TURKEY!
Turkey's hottest heartthrob, Kivanch Tatlitug has been trying to cross over to Hollywood for years now and fresh rumours say that he has been offered a role in Russell Crowe's directorial debut THE WATER DIVINER which will see Russell playing a man who goes to Turkey to search for his sons, Australian soldiers, who took part in Word War I battle at Gallipoli. Kivanch is supposed to travel to USA next month for the audition. The film will also star Jai Courtney and Olga Kurylenko.

AARON PAUL JOINS

RUSSELL CROWE & AMANDA SEYFRIED IN 'FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS' DRAMA
Television star Aaron Paul is quickly moving onto the big screens and his latest gig is a role in FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS drama next to Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried. The story is set in two different time periods, 25 years apart, in New York City. Russell Crowe plays a famous novelist who is struggling to raise his five-year-old daughter while battling with his own mental illness. Amanda Seyfried is playing the adult daughter in present-day Manhattan, who is still coming to grips with her troubled childhood. Aaron is currently shooting Ridley Scott's epic EXODUS set in Ancient Egypt in which he plays Joshua next to Christian Bale as Moses, Joel Edgerton as Pharaoh Ramses and Sigourney Weaver and John Turturro as pharaoh's parents.

12 MONKEYS TELEVISION SHOW

Deadline reports that the third lead actor has been cast for 12 MONKEYS sf show, the small screen adaptation of the famous movie with Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stove and BradPitt. The story follows the journey of Cole (NIKITA's Aaron Stanford), a desperate and haunted time traveller from the post apocalyptic near future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Amanda Schull will play Cassandra Railly, a brilliant doctor who is forced to choose between her idyllic life or joining Cole’s mission to uncover the dangerous conspiracy. They are now joined by another NIKITA star Noah Bean who will play the role that was done by Bruce Willis in the film.

'THE LOTTERY' DYSTOPIAN SF

Another science fiction series to come to us next year has also found its lead star: I have already informed you that Lifetime is preparing their sf show THE LOTTERY and now 'Deadline' writes that Marley Shelton will lead the cast in the dystopian thriller. The story is set in a world where women have stopped having children, threatening extinction of the human race. When 100 embryos are successfully fertilized, a national lottery is held to decide the surrogates. The series centres on Dr. Alison Scott (Shelton), the brilliant fertility specialist whose breakthrough in fertilizing 100 viable eggs may have life-and-death consequences she could not have anticipated. Earlier this month, Michael Graziadei, Lesley Ann Brandt and Louise Lombard were already cast in the show.

Meanwhile, Imogen Poots will be seen in street racer movie NEED FOR SPEED next to Aaron Paul, and Jessica Lucas will play in POMPEII, an epic movie about ancient heroes and volcanoes.

REMAKE?

I'm sure that you are already excited about the remake of famous THE CROW movie from 90's which is currently being shot in USA with charismatic Welsh star Luke Evans in the lead role. To add to that excitement here's a spicy piece of news: according to some rumours THE WALKING DEAD crossbow wielding zombie slayer Daryl might join the movie since Norman Reedus is allegedly currently in talks to join the cast. To be directed by F. Javier Gutierrez, the remake will see Luke Evans playing rock star Eric Draven, who was killed alongside his fiancée and then comes back from the grave to avenge his own death. Luke Evans, who has just finished shooting DRACULA epic, is currently undergoing physical training for the role. You will watch him as Bard the Bowman next month in THE HOBBIT THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG.

NEW BIBLICAL MINI TV SERIES
In television news this Monday, WGN America is preparing new mini series: according to 'Deadline' they will turn THE TEN COMMANDMENTS into a ten part event series with the idea of each episode being directed by another famous Hollywood filmmaker.

The Ten Commandments, or the Decalogue, feature a set of biblical principles delivered by God to Moses that include prohibitions against idolatry, blasphemy, murder, theft, dishonesty, and adultery.

THE WALKING DEAD MIDSEASON!

And speaking of THE WALKING DEAD, how do you like the fourth season so far? I'm kinda missing the sudden twists and unexpected shocking surprises which were much more present in previous runs of the zombie show. The latest update from the show is that young Andrew J. West has been cast and will take a significant role with a large presence in the second part of the fourth season which airs from February after the break. He will play a character named Gareth, who is a changed version of a character from the comic books and might get a regular presence in the story later on.

THE WHALE BBC TV MOVIE

Set to premier this December at BBC is two hour television movie THE WHALE (we're currently waiting for first pictures and a trailer) which will describe the whaling disaster which inspired Melville's MOBY DICK. The story follows the ill-fated voyage of The Essex ship through the eyes of the cabin boy Thomas Nickerson who, at 14, was the youngest member of the crew and one of only eight survivors of the shipwreck. The action packed narrative follows Nickerson as, against all odds, he comes through the worst that nature throws at him, growing up fast in the process. He faces the destructive

force of sea-storms, the power of whales, the brutal desolation of the sun and sea after the shipwreck, and finally the grim realities of dark deeds as his only means of survival. Jonas Armstrong (ROBIN HOOD) leads the cast as First Mate Owen Chase with Adam Rayner (THE SAINT) as Captain Pollard, Paul Kaye (GAME OF THRONES) as Joy, David Gyasi (WAR HORSE) as Peterson and Jolyon Coy (THE HOLLOW CROWN) as Lawrence. Martin Sheen plays old Nickerson. The film will air over in USA next summer at Animal Planet.

LAVISH 'HEDDA GABLER' MOVIE

Staying on the isle, here's the first look on the lavish movie adaptation of famous 1890's Henrik Ibsen's literary classic HEDDA GABLER.

Directed by Matthew John, the movie centres on Hedda, beautiful daughter of the late General Gabler, who returns from her honeymoon

with scholar husband Jorgen to confront the boredom and banality of married life. Although she has little more than amused contempt

for her husband, she is pregnant by him and is revolted by the thought of carrying his child and the changes that motherhood will

impose upon her future. When the re-appearance of an old flame of hers threatens both Jorgen's career prospects and her own amour

propre, Hedda contrives to bring about Lovborg's destruction but, in the process, also brings about her own.

The new adaptation will also feature some new characters which did not appear in the play itself. The audience will also enjoy intricate costumes and rich Victorian sets! 'THE CODE' TV SERIES

ON AMERICAN SLAVERY PERIOD

Deadline reports that FX is preparing yet another historical mini series: THE CODE will be based on James McBride's novel SONG YET SUNG describing the life of famous abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Born a slave, she escaped and, with the help of the hard-bitten white watermen of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, fostered an intricate escape network of secret routes and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad that she used to smuggle more than 300 slaves to the North. The main character will be Liz, a black woman making a desperate dash to freedom, on the run from an able slave catcher, who takes on one last job only to find himself in a war against a notorious female slave stealer. As Liz makes her way through forbidding swamplands using the black codes of the underground, the complexities of slavery play out in full force, pitting slave against slave, white against white, and plantation owner against plantation owner!

And new series are coming to AMC too! They have ordered two pilots. KNIFEMAN, based on Wendy Moore's book “The Knife Man: Blood, Body Snatching And The Birth of Modern Surgery,” will be set in

18th Century London following a charming, arrogant genius who challenges societal norms to transform his visions into cutting-edge discoveries. A surgeon or “barber” in a time when blood-letting and praying was the norm, he is a hard living man not afraid to push the boundaries of modern medicine, even if it takes digging up a few graves to do it. While he makes his living running an unlicensed operating theatre out of his residence, he picks up extra cash harvesting organs for his brother Julian, favorite son and prized physician of the St. Stephen’s teaching hospital.

Second pilot is for GALYNTINE, a sf show taking place at a time after a cataclysmic technology induced disaster has resulted in a new society

We're having an epic day at HOLLYWOOD SPY this festive Thursday! First, check out the second trailer for HERCULES: THE LEGEND BEGINS which will arrive to cinemas this January 10th with Kellan Lutz playing the mythical hero! The blond hunk portrays Hercules, demigod and son of Zeus, who, betrayed by his King and sold into slavery, must use his formidable strength to fight for his freedom and return to his true love, Hebe, the Princess of Crete (played by Gaia Weiss)! The cast also includes SPARTACUS star Liam McIntyre as Hercules' sidekick Captain Sotirus, along with Johnathon Schaech, Scott Adkins, Rade Serbedgia, Roxanne McKee.... Unlike the first trailer which mostly showed Hercules fighting in the arena, this one offers a look into many magnificent epic scenes with enchanting visuals.

BAZZ LUHRMANN TO DIRECT

STEVEN SPIELBERG PRODUCED 'NAPOLEON' MINI SERIES?
And here's another epic piece of news: earlier this year I told you that Steven Spielberg plans to produce a historical mini series on infamous French general and emperor NAPOLEON at HBO based on the material that Stanley Kubrick left behind him. Now, the rumour has it that MOULIN ROUGE director Bazz Luhrman is being courted to direct the whole thing! According to 'Deadline' it would become the highest profile television miniseries at HBO! If you remember, back in the days, Bazz was supposed to direct another huge epic - ALEXANDER THE GREAT (which was supposed to have Leonardo Dicaprio, Mel Gibson and Nicole Kidman in the cast) but was beaten by Oliver Stone and his craptastic epic with Colin Farrell. Now he is facing a similar situation since Warner has hired Rupert Sanders from SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN to helm a film on NAPOLEON, but that will be a big screen project.

While USA is in its festive mood, we're staying today over in UK: first of we're presenting you Sky One's new four part mini series FLEMING with Dominic Cooper playing the man who invented and created famous spy James Bond. Lara Pulver, Annabelle Wallis, Samuel West and Rupert Evans also star in the drama which, set against the permissive society of war-torn London, where the Martinis were always flowing and beds always being swapped, explores the early life of the charming, enigmatic 007 author. The outbreak of World War II saw the young Fleming working as an unsuccessful stockbroker, with a failed army career behind him and living off his rich family, while indulging in the very Bond- esque passions of womanising, alcohol and erotic literature. It wasn't

until he was forced to join Naval Intelligence that Fleming found his true calling. Using his mischievous sense of humour, sharp charm and

vivid imagination, he was responsible for some of the most outrageously dangerous counter intelligence missions against the Nazis honing his inspiration for Bond in the process.

First today, a small homage to beautiful Paul Walker, whom we lost way too early this weekend in a tragic car accident. I just wanted to remind everybody how special he was in

Hollywood. Rather underrated, often looked upon as just another muscly surfer hunk who stars in action flicks, Paul was actually a very unique young man: did you know that he was a marine biologist (he even majored marine biology at college) and was a member of organizations which fight for the health of the oceans, he was also a big humanitarian (he collected money for places destroyed by natural disasters and his death happened while he was leaving a charity event this Saturday), he was also a father (he was a single father raising his 15 year old daughter in LA).

KIND AND LOVING PERSON

All the stars he worked with say that he was a very kind and loving person. I personally believe that he was also at the point in his career in which he was leaning towards more dramatic roles and his last film HOURS contains one of his most touching performances of a father who fights for his prematurely born baby under the attack of hurricane Katrina.

'Deadline' reports that Oscar nominated screenwriter Jeffrey Caine (THE CONSTANT GARDENER) is currently penning the script for HANNIBAL BARCA mini series. The story would describe the great general's fight with Scipio Africanus — with whom he went head-to-head in the Second Punic War! To be aired as scripted series at History, HANNIBAL will begin in Carthage, 264 BC, at the beginning of his life in North Africa and will take viewers through the Second Punic War between Carthage and Rome. In what became legend, Hannibal and his archrival took a sacred vow to destroy the other and the nation he served. However, despite their fiercely opposed allegiances, the two were brought together and grew to respect each other as brothers.

THE WOLFMAN TV SHOW

With the success of new DRACULA show over at NBC it was only natural that the network would add some other of the legendary monsters to their slate of upcoming new projects: according to 'Deadline' they are now planning to make THE WOLFMAN TV series. They've even put DRACULA writer Daniel Knauf to pen the script for the pilot episode. The new show would study the themes of being a man and a human, centring on Lawrence Talbott, who suffers from an ancient curse that transforms him into a vicious werewolf when a full moon appears. Daniel Knauf is also developing an untitled series that follows six governesses who use their supernatural powers to control modern-day Los Angeles out of their elite Hancock Park women's club.

I've already informed you of the plans to adapt famous SHANNARA book saga but the surprise is that MTV has ordered the script from the creators of SMALLVILLE for the adaptation which will be turned into a TV series if they like the material. Jon Favreau will direct the project which, based on Terry Brook's fantasy saga, is set in our world, thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization. The story is centred on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. According to 'Deadline' the first season of the potential SHANNARA series will be based on 'The Elfstones of Shannara', the second title in the epic saga!
